BIOGRAPHY

After gaining a Distinction on the Middlesex Foundation course, Matt Foster continued into the field of jewellery under the tutelage of internationally renowned jeweller Pierre Degan. He was taught not to follow convention, to first understand what was in the box, then to work outside it, designing every aspect, with a particular emphasis on an innovative approach to materials.

From here he concentrated on developing a solid base to his work in metal and related materials at Sir John Cass, all the time exploring all aspects of design, encompassing everything from body sculpture to lighting features. This broad approach to his work is still his forte, as it mirrors his interest in the application of design in all parts of life, and has led to private commissions, styling for photo shoots, and collaborations in the fields of fashion and music.

He spent some time as general design and technical assistant to Mehbs Yaqub, celebrated designer of the jewelled bathrooms at Sketch, working on bespoke designs and commissions, including bejewelled cigar cases for La Casa Del Habano, Soho.

Following a successful work placement at the jewellery design studios of Simon Lewis, whose previous proteges include Shaun Leane, he was offered a space in the studio, and used the exciting opportunity to continue his learning and hone his skills in the production of gold and platinum fine jewellery.

Having moved into his new studio workshop No.5 St Cross Street, Hatton Garden, he now feels well placed to continue to pursue his many ambitions across the whole field of jewellery and related disciplines.
